Auckland 5 April 1861. My dear Sir, I was much disappointed at not meeting you at Waitara, last Saturday. But I hope to see you shortly in Auckd., when we can talk over my future station. I still think that the Kaingas abt. Waitemata, Frith of Thames and Manukao shd. be a separate District and properly worked; and that such a circuit wd. suit me, as I should suit it. The question of expense is not worth mention, at the present time. But if I am required by the Gov. to go South again I shall request to have my family with me - to reside (as to the household) at Wellington, where I can school my children - and not be removeable by a changeable Ministry. Also to be allowed my full removal expenses. But, if any arrangement can be made, whereby my family can remain here, I shd. be very thankful since, if I am required to remove them into the Country, I shall be necessitated much against my inclination to enter into business in this place. In haste yours truly, H. H. Turton. P.S. I wish you wd. authorise Mr. E. Braker to make a visit as far as Rangitikei, during my present absense, that he may report to the Govt. the state of Natives etc. It wd. at least help to stop the mouths of the three F.'s which are open wide enough. If that Dr. F. is your friend, you are mistaken. As for myself, I wd. not trust one of them. N.N.T. M. B. has but little to do at R. Magistrated Ct., and can well be spared by Mr. Ferrard.
