Napier Novr. 11th 1872 My dear McLean, Since I wrote you this morning I have heard from Hall who is uneasy about the Land Court difficulty at Manawatu. I have also seen all the telegrams on the subject and have told Hall I agree in thinking the best course under the circumstances is to leave with the Court the discretion of going on or stopping - The object is that no matter what the decision come to may be it will not be able to be enforced which is not a desirable position - The whole difficulty arises from the too great pressure which Mr. Grindell has put up the natives urged on himself no doubt by Fitzherbert and Bunny - Rogan's last telegram shows that the position is one of considerable difficulty - He is a good man and firm and may pull through - I fancy Rogan feels that the Native Land Court's days are numbered and that a break down in this case wd. certainly finish it and that he will be proportionately firm - depend upon it he has a tough job before him. There is no orderly to send until tomorrow morning - the best plan to keep up communication regularly with you will be to send one out and one in each day - Yours always J. D. Ormond
