Rotowhenua, 15 Feby., 1865. My dear Mr. McLean, I am glad to hear that you are convalescent. I hope your health will soon be quite restored. I send you a few peaches. They are not quite ripe but they will be so tomorrow or next day. If quite ripe peaches were sent from here in a cart they would be useless by the time they got to Napier. Some of the "Pai marires" belonging to the Ngatiraukawas passed here today. The Ngatihineuru and Petane Tribes were with them. It is said that Porokuru of Waikato and other hapus are on their way behind. I hope they will not be able to do much mischief here. It is said that if they succeed in making many proselytes here their principal prophet Te Ua will come over from Taranaki. Wi Tako and Matene te Whiwhi from Cooks Straits are expected at Omahu tomorrow - but these and many matters of a like kind will be no news to you if your health has been sufficiently recovered to listen to them. I am, Yours faithfully, Alex. Alexander.
