Manawatu River March 8th. 1860. B. Maclean Esq. My dear Sir, It has just afforded me great pleasure to hear that you have arrived in Wellington with your health greatly improved. I sincerely hope both for your own sake and the public at large that my information is correct. Should you be able to journey up this way, I think it might be attended with good results in reference to the purchase of the Kirawanui's block. I was speaking with Hoani Meihana a few days since on the subject and he, as you are aware, has great influence with the Hiriwanui -- in fact, the latter has I believe left it entirely in his hands. This Hoani has been a trader for me some years and is really an honest and intelligent man. I endeavoured to point out to him the advantages to be gained by the sale and expressed to him my surprise that a person of his intelligence should for a moment stand in the way of it. He acknowledged that he wished to see it sold and most positively assured me that it would be sold if they could only have an interview with (and you only) about it. Trusting you health will continue to improve, I remain My dear Sir, Yours very truly, Thomas M. Cook.
