Saty. 19th. Feby. 1859 My dear Friend, After much anxiety and discussion, I have come to the conclusion that if I can obtain a sutiable appointment under Government, I will accept it, in preferance to returning to England. I thus entirely relinguish my own desires for Fatherland in favr. of my children's health, and prospects in life, and in so doing, I hope I am doing right and proper. I enclose you copy of a note which I have addressed to the Governor thinking that he might probably prefer a personal application from myself as having less appearance of independence etc. But of course, he will refer it to Mr. R. and yourself, if he entertains it at all, and then you can discuss the matter fully with him. I shall have nothing to do with the Wes. Mission if I accept situation. of that kind. Trusting in your continued kindness to me and mine, I am yours sincerely, H. Hanson Turton. Please write me a note saying what you think of it, and whether or not there be any prospects of such a situation being created or any other
