Kawau, Jany 15th 1868 My dear McLean, I received by the St. Kilda your two letters of the 8th of January and the address which accompanied them. I have not time to send a formal reply but I will do so by the next mail. I will only say now that I shall part from you with real regret and that wherever I may go I shall look back with pleasure to the times I have spent with you in old days, and in more recent times. I think the old days were the happiest. Perhaps we were younger then. I have heard recently from the Duke of Edinburgh He will be here in March and will visit Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury and Otago, possibly other places, but I am not sure which. I fear from what Sir G. Bowen has written to me that I shall not be Governor when the Prince comes -but he has written so earnestly begging me to meet him in New Zealand, at all events, that I think I must yield. If I do so I will arrange with you that he shall go over to Hawkes Bay. You and he will Just suit each other. I feel sure you will be charmed with him. Very truly yours, G. Grey
