Wanganui April 10th, 1860 Dear McLean, I hear the Tyne is about to start for N. Plymouth, I have therefore merely to state that I have received your usual communication of 4th Inst. and that I am now about to attend a Meeting of the Natives at Putiki with some of the old settlers to allay if possible the great excitement that now exists, in consequence of the news brought by the Wonga Wonga yesterday, that the Waikatos had threatened Auckland. The moment the result of this meeting is known if in time I will communicate it. The great want of arms and ammunition is operating strongly on the minds of the people here, who feel themselves defenceless in case of any attack from the Coast natives. In haste Yours truly, D. S. Durie
