HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Hamilton Borough Council met on Friday evening. There v/ero present: The Mayor (Mr. C. J. W. Barton), and Messrs. Parr, Hardley, Young, Dey, Pearson, Bettley, and Salmon. Insanitary Buildings: The building inspec- ■■ tor reported that three houses were unfit for habitation. It was resolved that the owners he warned either to repair the buildings or raze them. ■ ~ .... , 1. Municipal Buildings: Messrs. Mahoney ' and Son wrote enclosing plans for proposed ' municipal buildings, which they think should be erected for £3000. Finance: The clerk submitted the following statement:— balance, September 8, 1903, £1041 17s lid; accounts passed, £63 10s sd; accounts paid since, salaries, and " wages, £49 13s 5d : total, £1135 is 9d Receipts— licensing expenses, £24 19s 9d; sale of by-laws. is; discount, 4s; affixV . ing seal, 5s 6d; royalty, 4s 6d; small circus license, £1; rent, £1; balance of subsidy, ': £18 6s sd; costs of deed, £3 3s; rate, 19031904, £31 18s 6d: rate, 1902-1903, £11 0s 9d; rate, 1901-1902, £1 14s; 10 pel cent., £1 5s '-.- 2d; water interest rate, £13 14s lid: total, £108 14s 9d; debit balance, £1046 7s. Water Supply: Mr. W. H. Littlejohn, , borough turncock, reported that for the four i months ended Dctober 1, the quantity of water consumed was 106,000 gallons, and ' the quantity pumped 120,000 gallons. The amount of gas consumed was 3600 ft. there were 51 consumors, and the water used averV aged 15 gallons per head per day. As regards fire appliances, he suggested that the hose and nozzles be got at once. when the fire brigade was formed they would find they bad as good a head of water as any ol the boroughs outside of Auckland to fight a fire. 8
