Mo saw service in the Great War, in which he volunteered at the age of 17. Alter active association with the British Labour Party. Captain Lyon came to New Zealand in 1D27 and settled iu'Hawke's Bav. In the following year he contested the Hawke's Bay seat without success. He was elected to the Hastings Borough Council and the Napier Harbour Board in l!'2i> and resigned to live In Auckland. He worked in the interests of the unemployed in Auckland and was president ol the Auckland Provincial Fneniployed Workers' Association for two years. He contested seats on the Auckland City Council and the Auckland Harbour Board without success before he was elected to Parliament in liWo. He was a former president of the Auckland Football Association, Captain Lvon is survived by his wife and two (laughters. MR. Although only .'!!( years of age, Lieutenant James Kenneth Herdntan. who is reported killed in action, had service in two wars. He was horn in Edinburgh, the only son of the late Mr. J. J. Ilerdnian, a barrister and solicitor, of Edinburgh, whose death has occurred since Lieutenant Jlerdnian reached Egypt. Lieutenant ilerdnian was educated at Eppingham School ami Edinburgh ('diversity. He served as a cadet in the Royal Scots Grevs in the last war and also had service with the Royal Mounted Police in India. Lieutenant Ilerdnian had been residing in Auckland for some years and was in the employ of Dominion Motors. Limited. Ho enlisted in the early days of the war and received his commission as a second-lieutenant before going overseas. He was promoted lieutenant in the field. He is survived by his widow, who is a daughter of Colonel I). Monro, and an infant son. In a letter which Mrs. Ilerdnian received this week, Lieutenant Herdman said his battalion had been through the campaign in Greece, and when they were evacuated the Germans were only 10 minutes behind them at the coast. They did not lose any of their men in Greece.

FORMERLY AT ARAIM'XI (0.C.) TK AWAMI'TU, Thursila.v Captain R. B. McClymout, formerly of Te Awamutu, reported killed in action, was employed by the Electric Service and Hardware Company, in To Awamutu, alter which he took charge of the Te Awamutu Power Hoard's .substation. About live years ago he was transferred to Arapuiii. and was there at the time of his enlistment. Captain McClymout took a keen interest in militarv affairs and photography while be was in Xew Zealand. His wife lives in Kihikihi Road, Te Awamutu.
