The National Library of New Zealand Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa manages this website with accessibility in mind. We aim to make this website as accessible as possible for everyone.

We're aware of some accessibility issues

We know that Papers Past has some accessibility issues, including those listed below.

  • There is no mechanism to bypass blocks of content that are repeated on multiple Web pages.
  • Information, structure, and relationships conveyed through presentation cannot be programmatically determined.
  • Some error messages are not visible or programmatically detectable.
  • Linking text in some parts of the site is hard to see.
  • Colour contrast is not sufficient for buttons and links and other features on the site.
  • Most images do not have alternative text.
  • Some pages and features can not be accessed using tab.
  • Some pages have poor page titles
  • The focus indicator is not universally visible.
  • The default language is set to English, rather than English New Zealand or Māori when appropriate.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We're taking action to make this website more accessible.

  • We do our best to fix the accessibility issues identified via internal and external assessment, such as:
    • external accessibility reports
    • automated accessibility tools
    • assistive technology tools
    • user feedback.
  • We include accessibility in the design, development and testing of new features.
  • We work with vendors who understand and strive to comply with accessibility standards and requirements.
  • The staff working on this website receive accessibility training.
