POLICE COURT, HAMILTON.

THIS DAY. At the Police Court this morning, before Messrs' \V. C. Davis and S. Knight, J.P.'s, Pierre Guillard was charged with having! on the January last, assaulted Harriet Guillard, at Churchill, so as to ciuse her bodly harm. Mr H. T. Uillies appeared on behalf of the complainant, and Mr MacDiarmid for the defendant.

.Mr Gillies explained that the charge was a very serious one, and complainant was an old woman, who was the accused's stepmother. On 22th January accused was putting some very heavy machinery into a buggy, the property of the complainant, who complained that the load was too heavy to put into the buggy. Accused then used some very bad language and hit her on the neck with his fists, and told her to go home. She did not do so, and wus again struck on the throat Accused then left the place, but subsequently returned with his father (complainants husband). Meanwhile, Mr and Mrs Cuthbert had put in an appearance. When : accused returned he again used some threatening language and rushed a! the old lady knocking he r do\vn. The next day Dr. Monk was sent for from Huutlv. and subsequently Dr. Going was consulted. The complainant, Harriet Guillard, an old lady who was helped into court on a crutch, corrobratod this statement,

Dr. Going deposed to having been consulted by complainant, who was suffering from injuries to the thigh and leg, which would probably b9 permament. He had previously treated Mrs Uaillard, who was always in bad health. He saw no marks or blows on the neck.
