With reference to the potato diseaso in Auckland district, Mr Kirk, Government biologist, statos from Wellington that none of tho specimens received by the Department from Auckland show any trace of potato rot, Thoy showed tinces of another disease, known as" Early blight," which is prevalent in America and Australia, The disease is not so dangerous to oropsas tho "rot," though it is vory serious. Mr Kirk is unable to say whether " rot" may pot bo prevalent in Auckland, but he leaves for there on Monday next to investigate, WAIHI THEFT CASE:.TWELVE MONTH'S PROBATION Sentence was pronounced by Judge Edwards in the Supreme Court on Caroline Collins (Waihi) for theft from a dwelling, twelvo months' probation; Jessie Walters for theft from the person, twolve months' hard labour; Sydney Gardner, for escaping from tho tVaiotapu prison camp, six months, and tor theft from a dwelling, twelve months extra.
