Melbourne, this day The Federal Government is considering n aohemo for an improved PaciGc Islands mail service, It is proposod to substitute for 'ho presont auxiliary steamor an oceangoing steamer, whioh would procoed direct to New Hebrides from Sydney monthly; and also to establish a twomonthly service to the Solomon Group and throe-monthly service to Gilbert, Ellico, and Marshall Islands via Valia, tho service connooting with Thursday Island or Cooktown, and all parts of British INow Guinoa. If tbo scheme is adopted six stoamers will be omployed, all oarrying white labour,
