Sovcral inmutes had narrow escapes, A nativo jjiil descended a ladder from the upper storey- Walter Martin, son of the licensee, suffered Severn burns in fulling through tho floor, which gfive way under him. Mr Martin lost his furniture, valued at £IOOO, and stock, i'UOO. which wcro insured for jEdOO. It is belicvodjthat iho building was insured for i2OOO. The building adjoining the hotel, occupied by Mr Platts, and owned by Mr Heather, was totnlly destroyed. Mr Webb's building was partly damaged, Piatt estimates his loss at £SOO.
