In reply it was resolved to advise them of the action the School had alroady takoain tho matter, Accounts amounting to £37 Oa 6d were passed for payment, In a discussion on the question of tho insta'lalion of electrical lighting of tho school Mr Johnston argued tbit gas was cheaper than electricity, and that being so it would be wiser to defer tho question of installing an effective electrical plant on account of tho expense. Tho chairman pointed out that the Government had a»rcod to pay a subsidy on tho cost of the proposed plant, and now the matter had been brought practically to a final stage opposition to the installation was toil, He would also remind Mr John-', ston that though tho Thamoshad gas they had installed an up-to-dalo electrical plant aii tho Thames School of Mines. Mr Morgt'u considered that as the matter had gone so far, and as tho bonoflts of electricity had been so well considered, thero wai no reason why they should dolay the question of lighting, Tho sub committee .mil been givon a month to enquire and consider tho question, Mr, Johnston pointed out that no time had boon lost in making tho fullest' en* quiries into the matter, Mr. Banks endorsed this statement. After some further discussion it was resolved on the motion of Mr. Bongo, seconded by Mr, Mo'gsn, that tho sub committee, Messrs, Thomas Gilmour, E, G. Banks, W, H. Johnston, and T. A. Kenrick, be authorised ti proceed with tho installation of an olectrfial plant for tho use of the tchool, It was decided that the chairman, in re:ponse to an invitation, should represent tho Council at the students' annual dinner in Mover's Hall on Saturday evening,.
