CHRISTCHURCH, April 5. At the New Zealand Trades' Council Conference to-day the ' following resolutions were passed: — That the Government be urged to amend the Municipal Franchise 1 lteform Act to provide that the Parliamentary franchise should apply to all elections for local bodies; that every elector be entitled to vote on all questions submitted to poll, -.also that the law be amended tojprovide for election by popular vote of "all Hospital and CharitaW© Aid, Harbour, and Boards, and County Councils; that Ihu Counties Act be amended (1) by making the qualification to vote residential for all adult persons over the age of 21, (2) by tho abolition of plural voting, (3) that ridings, counties, or divisions of districts for election of members of local bodies be abolished, (4) that the chairman of all local bodies be appointed by the electors; that the Government be urged to introduce legislation providing for a referendum, with, initiative, in the hands of the people.
