THE INDUSTRIAL SCHOOL GRANT.
TO THE EDITOR.
Sir ,-r- Will you kindly alloy- me space, foi the follownug: — May. I ask why it is oiu local press is mum on the Industrial •Sqhool grant question.? . Can there be some good reason, other, than, is .known to the. general public, for such reticence? Assuming that the local press, believe that all ii; connection with this grant is -satisfactory, will they, or can they,' state how inanj , poor -children have received' free education, in terms of ,the original grant, during tht last 50 years? Can it also, be shown hoy. much revenue has been derived- from thi£ estate up to the present date? Also, what tho expenditure, has bpen, , and how exj)6iided, during 1 the same period? Will a reason also be given why -it is that tlm .estate is in such a wretched and neglected state? At this time when the powers thai be are_ casting about ,to create a "Greate? Wanganui*" it behoves them to see ,tha4 the interior of the Boroxigh shall be all that can be desired. - Trusting that oui Mayor, the Qity Fathers, and otir local press, will call jnto question the. manage . ment of this Industrial School estate, am 1 institute such- an investigation as wiliplainly show who receives the emolument- _ "arising from this valuablcestate, and the so-called Collegiate School (?) I maintain the 'name is still the Industrial School. V lidld the 'opinion/ that there is no power outside of Parliament that can change, oi in any way alter the name of the,. Indus trial School. Inviting critioism, I am, etc., JOHN, MORGAN.. January IQ, 1903. , v [Mr Morgan evidently does not. read the "Herald" very regularly or attentively.' Ii he did so he would know that during the last quarter of a century this journal ha* repeatedly contained- articles and ' corres dencc on the subject and has quite latelj referred to, the neglooted state- -of the Industrial School Estate, which 'is, in many portions, a disgrace to all concorned.-^Ed.
