VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.
The match between the Wangauui Rifles ami Greytown Rifles will be fired on Saturday, the 14th inst. The following team will represent Wanganni : — Color-Sergt Hughes, Sergts G. Ross and Aaiuodt, Corpl G. Cummins, Band-Corpl Armstrong, Lance-Corpls Nutsford and Logan, Vols Foster, Armstrong, Churton, and Bandsman Mettam. Waiting men, Vol Spurdle, Bandsman Neill. The conditions of the match are 5 shots at •2, 4, and 500 yds ; target 6x4, with 8 inch bull's eye at 200 yds, and 6x6 with 2x2 bull's eye at the longer ranges. The team that represented the Alexandra Cavalry at Nelson have challenged the Nelson representatives of the Wanganui Rifles. The match will be fired some time during the month. The Alexandras would do well to remember that there is a power behind the throne greater than the throne itself, or in other words, that the Rifles have even a better team than the representative quartette. # ,/%.*»./! Purnell, took place at the Range this (Saturday) morning, and resulted as follows :— Sub-Lieut Flyger49, Lance-Corpl A. Mooseman 47, Bandsman Cribb 44, Corpl Parks 42. Lance-Corpl Mooseman takes the Riile, his total in the six competitions being 2SI, an average of 47 for each competition.
It may be interesting to our readers to know that Colonel Reader, who lately accompanied the Duke of Manchester in his tour through the North Island, was at the Military College, Sandhurst, with the Duke, with whom he has been on terms of friendship for many years.
