Cabled advice was* received in Mastervton last evening announcing that Captain Aubrey Jackson, formerly of this town, was killed in action on September • sth. Captain Jackson, who was in the employ of Messrs G. H. Perry and Co., of Masterton, when he enlisted, sailed Twith the Fourteenth Reinforcements with the commission of a lieutenant. He had been on active service in Prance for two years and three months. He was promoted to the rank of captain on the afield. The late Captain Jackson was for some years in the employ of Messrs A. H. Herbert and Co., in Eketahuna. Deceased was born in Australia about 45 years ago, and came to New Zealand "when a small child. He resided at Wellington, Levin, Carterton, Eketahuna, and for the past seven years in Masvterton. While in Carterton he was a .member of the Fire Brigade, of the Ancient Order of Druids, and of the -Carterton Football Club. He had represented Wairarapa on the football Ja.eld.jke also was a representative of the Epowhenua Rugby Union when .■residing at Levin. Deceased took a very keen interest in military matters 'The late Lieutenant Jackson leaves a -widow and five children. Much -sympathy will be extended to the relatives in "their bereavement.
