Wellington, August 4. The barque Sophiaß.Luhra arrived from Newcastle this afternoon. She left on the 23rd July, and on the first day out, Captain Paton was sitting on the house aft, when a bear; 8«a bfvkc on, w%&jpg km
off on to the deck, where he was greatly knocked about and narrowly escaped being washed overboard. The injuries received consist of a fracture on the skull, a broken nose, and one of his eyes is in such a state that it is not known yet whether he will recover tbe sight. In addition to this he is considerably bruised about the body.
