DEFEAT OF THE STAFFORD MINISTRY. MAJORITY OF ELEVEN AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT. RESIGNATION OF THE STAFFORD MINISTRY. MR FOX SENT FOR. Wellington, June 25, 9.35 a.m. The debate on the want of confidence closed last night, and a division I resulted in the Government being defeated'by a majority of eleven votes, the numbers being : ; — Ayes 40 Noes ..........* 29 Majority 11 Messrs Williamson and Kelly made brief speeches, and no one else rose. Mr Fox replied very briefly. Mr Carleton's amendcment was negatived on the voices, and on the original motion being put, the division resulted as above. We have received no intimation of ministerial intentions in consequence of the vote. 3.40 p.m. The House met to-day at 3 o'clock, when Mr Stafford announced, that in consequence of the adverse votes the Ministry had placed their resignation in the hands of His Excellency, who had been pleased to accept the same, and had sent for Mr Fox. Mr Fox announced that he would shortly inform the House whether he could succeed or not in his^undertaking. The House has adjourned till Tuesday next, the 29th inst.
