The new standardised steamer Waiternata, built by the Imperial Government and purchased t>y the Union Company while on the stocks, wiU leave England thi fi month for Calcutta, via Port Said, thence to Calcutta for the four main New Zealand ports via. Singapore and Samarang. The Waitemata is one or live steamers purchased by the Union Co. to replace those vessels lost through enemy action and other causes during the war. The vessel is 9000 ■ tons ■ dead weight, and has a speed of 12 knots. She was built by the Northumberland Ship Building Co., ar.d was only recently launched.
