BOROUGH WORKS.
ENGINEER'S REPORT. Th' 3 Borough Engineer (.Mr. N. Crofton Staveley) reported on the work done ;n the Borough during the month of Juno as follows:-— Streets and Footpaths.—The top block of tho Avenue, on which the tar and sand Avas being broken by the steam waggon traffic to DeniJys pit, Ims been treated with a heavy coat of specially prepared tar and small stones. The filling of the westerly approach to the Dublin Street bridge has. been completed, andj metalling will be proceeded with. 094: yards of clay were deposited here, making a total of 1594 yards. The Wangamri East tramway formation has jvdvanced to Duncan Street, and o2t <. übio yards of ballast were supplied during the month. The haulage of rails ■end materials is being cheaply effected : by using the steam waggon with a trail- | or. No. 3 Line from the railway crossing to the gravel pit has been metalled, using 367 yards of metal from the Borough pit. The tramway in Guyton St. between P urn oil and Nixon Street has been treated with tarred stone. A considerable amount of street patching and ! footpath repairs have been undertaken. J i.'7O yards of gravel being used in the ' former. DRAINAGE Durietown.—The re-laying o f the 9in. J sewer on No. 1 Lino has been complete! j (10£ chains), and a pipe is now being laid np to Hipango Terrace. Sumps have v.teo been renewed in St. Hill Street j and ten new ones provided in various suburban streets where rendered necessary by kerbing. etc.
