A deputation waited on Admiral Pairfax to-day to urge the establishment of a bianch of the Royal Naval Reserve in Sydney. It was stated that there are 12,000 men in the colonies who are willing to join. Tho Admiral promised to bring the matter \mder the notice of the Admirality. The Maritime Council state they have received no communication from London asking them not to discharge any vessels manned by " blacklegs." So far as is known here, no clergyman named Turnell has died leaving a legacy of .£1,400,000. The New South Wales Government have declined a proposal from the Victorian Government, for the appointment of a conference to deal with the question of securing uniformity in school books. The South Australian Government have agreed to : the proposal.
