TARANAKI.

By the Tyne which arrived here on the 22nd instant, we received intelligence from Taranki up to the 15th instant. The troops continued inactive, owing it was said to orders to that effect from Government. Mr. Brown 1 had scarcely been expected to live, hut was then somewhat better. The natives were erecting a pa beside 2’eira’s land, almost about 2000 yards from the JFaitara camp. It was said that the Waikatos at JFaitara intended returning home, their Chief being displeased with their attack on Mr. Brown, and not being satisfied with W. Kingi’s right to interfere with the sale. “We have warning” says the Taranaki News of the 14th instant, “that travelling in the direction of the hush is unsafe and should not be undertaken by less than 20 persons well armed. The Natives are collected in some strength on the borders of the Bell Block, and are carrying off the stock of the settlers and tearing down the interior of their houses, those hitherto respected were on Monday last; ravaged in the wanton spirit that belongs to savage natures. These devastations a ie performed in the night. A party of the l;2th Regiment was sent down on Tuesday, on the receipt of this intelligence and some 50 men of the 40th, were'also sent after! dark, the intention being to take the marau-1 ders by surprise and cut; them off, blit none of them.were ,seen ; during the night and* it is asserted tliait signals passed'in, one of the friendly pas on the road to advise the enemy of the arrival 1 of an. addition to the force in the district..
