Canterbury, May 3rd.—During the last month a great improvement has taken place in the horse market. Several have changed hands by auction, whilst a great number have been sold privately, and all good ' horses are pow in increased demand. Light, ordinary hacks may be. quoted from £23 to £35. Superior class of saddle or harness horses from £6O to £BO. Draught stock from £SO to £7O. Young brood mares, draught, from £7O to £IOO. Cattle are in increased demand, an inferior lot of 100 mixed sold by auction at £6 per head. Milch cows have been sold during the month at £l4 per head, and are in increased demand.
Breeding ewes may be quoted from 245. to 28s. per head, with increased demand for good brands. Fat stock finds ready buyers at former quotations. The grain market is brisk * wheat may be quoted, best white wheat, from 6s. to 6s. 6d.; red wheat, from ss. Bd. to 6s. Oats, from 3s. 6d. to 4s. 3d. Barley, from 4s. to 4s. 6d. Auckland, May 24th.—r Wholesale, Fine flour, £24; seconds, £18; sharps, £9 per ton ;' Bran, ls.'3d.; Maize (cracked or whole) 4s. 6d. per bushel.
