MAYORALTY ELECTION.
ME. WAXKER AT THUS MASONIC HOTEL.
Mr. George Walker again addressed the electors in the Masonic Hotel, on the evening of Monday. Mr. M'Coy presided, Considering the various engagements of the evening, the attendance was very good. The candidate, in the course of his speech, said he had a few emendations to make to the address he had already given. While he was opposed to any further increase of their loan liabilities, where required for carrying on necessary public works he would noc object to borrow. What he deprecated was the borrowing of money and frittering it away in useless expenditure. The proposition to purchase the Phceoix dam was condemned by the candidate, for the twofold Teason that if left in the hands of the company an incentive would remaiu for fresh auriferous ground being developed ; if, on the other hand, it was found it could not be utilised in that way, the company would eventually be induced to dispose of it at a cheaper rate than they were at all likely to do at present. At the close of the address a large number of questions were put and answered, after which the usual vote of confidence was recorded.
