HOSTILITIES AT LYTTELTON. STEAMER DISREGARDS SIGNALS. The coastal steamer Wakatu arrived shortly before five o'clock this morning at Lyttelton. Tho captain took vessel right down the harbour* without waiting to ho examined by tho Defenco authorities, ■with the. result that tho puns on Fort Jervois opened firo across tho Wakatu's bow The Wakatu was not flying the correct signal, and the subsequent firing was tho result.
