A SAMOAN SENSATION.

[Fboic Ora Cobbesponbbnt.] AUCKLAND, October 6. The German newspaper published at Apia says: — " We have" made inquiries regarding the sensational events that have recently occurred at Messrs Schmidt Bros.' Avele plantation and have learned the following: — A short time ago Schmidt Bros, were served with a summons for a trivial matter. They took the paper and tore it in halves before the Samoan policeman who served it and abused him. A second summons was sent by a Chinese Eoliceman, and the Schmidts thrashed im with sticks so severely that he arrived back in Apia covered with blood and had to go to the hospital. Police-Assistant Possin was entrusted with the serving of a third summons. When this officer arrived at the verandah of Schmidt's house the elder brother, who' was armed with a treblebarrelled gun, ordered him off the, premises and fired. Possin escaped being hit by ducking quickly. In the meantime the younger Schmidt appeared on the verandah, armed with two revolvers, and whilst the police officer was beating a retreat, under cover as much as possible, several more shots, eight altogether, were fired at himJ Fortunately, none of them took effect. We" hear that it is intended to surround the house. Hunger and thirst would then soon settle the matter in- a peaceable manner and prevent calamity arid crime."
