THEFTS FROM VESSELS. [Pbk Press Association.] WELLINGTON, May 30. The Minister of Ju6tice, interview©*! by a Napior member of the Auckland Harbour Board in support of an agitation by that body for tho appointment of water police in Auckland and Napier, explained that thefte from vessels a.ul wharves had become of frequent occurrence, and he urged that property would not be sufficiently protected unless the old water police system was reverted to. The Minister said he could not ccc hk way to agree to the appointment of wetter police, but he promised to increase, the number of constables doing duty on the water front, and to jilaco men in charge of a sergeant with special knowledge of the class of work required to be done.
