THE EXHIBITION.

ALLOTTING THE SPACE. A Wellington complaint has recently been given publicity by the Wellington "Evening Post" against the alleged delay of the Exhibition Authorities in. informing applicants for space as to the result or their requests. The authorities, however, have a reply to make to the complaint, and it was given, to a reporter yesterday by Mr R. C. Bishop, chairman of the Space "Justice should b© ctone to the work of the Space Committee," eaid Mr Bishop. " Since the applications for space were closed, the Commissioners, the Director of Exhibits and the Space Committee have been at work continuously. When you consider that there were between 800 and 1000 applications for spaces varying from four square feet to 5000, and of all sorts of shapes and natures, you can g«t ©om© idea of the almost herculean task that was given to the committee. The space allotted to applicants has frontages extending for more than five miles in length, and the spaces required are of such varying sizes and shapes that it has been a veritable Chinese puzzle to fit in all the exhibits. Applicants can hardly appreciate the magnitude of this work. Moreover, the work had to be delayed until the receipt of the applications! ,of the bulk of the British exhibitors through the office of the High Commissioner, and the plan of allotment drawn out by him, which came to hand only by the last San Francisco mail. In consequence of some of the alterations mad© by the High Commissioner in the block plan, the committee had to begin its work de novo with respeot to the British section. All those who are extremely interested in the suooees of the Exhibition are fully alive to the necessity of letting the exhibitors have the earliest possible intimation as to the 6paoes allotted to them. The offices have been working at the highest pressure in order to get out the allotment plans to the exhibitors."
