MELBOURNE, July If Hides. — Hides again experienced a very firm* market. At the auction sales all the catalogues were cleared at last week's high rates.

Messrs Dalgety a.nd Co., Limited, have received the following cable message from their London office, under date July 12:— "The demand for frozen iamb continues, but any change in prices is in favour of buyers. The demand for frozen mutton and beef is poor, and the market is very dull in oonsequenoe. We quote prime Canterbury lamb, heavy and light, sd: prime North Island lamb, 4*d heavy, 4| light; prime Canterbury mutton., 3fd heavy, 3£d light; prime North Island, 3jd heavy, 3£ light ; New Zealand prime ox beef, 2£d fores, 3^d hinds. The w-00l sales continue without further change ; the decline in prices of merino wools is chiefly on inferior and faulty qualities and scoured."
