" THE CANTERBURY TIMES."

The "Canterbury Times" of; this week promises to be of exceptional interest. Amongst the illustrations is a very fine series dealing with New Zealand's magnificent alpine scenery. An interesting article accompanies the pictures, and tourists in particular will find the collection of much value to them. The snaps of the alpine country, which are excellently reproduced, will be very acceptable to friends in other lands. The Masonic gathering in Christchurch last week is the subject of two pictures, one being a group of the representatives who attended the annual communication \ of the Grand Lodge, and the other a flashlight photograph taken during the banquet proceedings in the Canterbury Hall. Amongst the miscellaneous pictures is one of the ill-fated schooner Ronga, which capsized on a voyage to Pelorus Sound, and one of the Knowles family, of Palmerston North. • Knowles, it will be remembered, now await 6 his trial on a charge of having murdered his wife. The reading pages of the popular weekly journal are full of excellent literary matter, both in fact and in fiction. Seldom, indeed, has the journal excelled the present week's number in this respect. Largely is this due to the sensationally-prophetic story, "The Invasion of 1910," which is to be commenced in the next issue. The tale, which is written by William Le Qneux, the well-known- novelist, and deals with an attempt by Germany to break down the power of Great Britain, is admittedly one of the most astounding of modern times. The copyright of " The Invasion of 1910" has been secured by the proprietors of the "Canterbury Times" at great cost, and the people of this colony will be enabled, by this journalistic enterprise, to read the story at finst hand. The price oi the "Canterbury Times" will be as usual, sixpence.
