A SLAUGHTERHOUSE CASE.
A BREACH OF THE ACT. At the Magistrate's Court to-day James Edwards was charged that lie did, on Oct. 11, at Spreydon, sell meat from a carcase r not slaughtered in accordance with the provisions of the Slaughtering and Inspection Act, 1900. Mr Beattie appeared for defendant, who pleaded guilty. Mr Beattie explained that his client had acted in ignorance of the provisions of the Act, which, besides being drastic, were as yet little understood. Mr Bishop said he could not treat the case lightly, as the defendant should have j complied with the provisions of the Act relating to the proper entries and records in the slaughter-book. In view of the- fact that defendant was not doing a wide business, he would not impose a very severe penalty. A tine of £5 and costs was inflicted.
