[From Ovb Cobresi'onpent.l GREYMOUTH, Nov. 19. Jt 19 understood 1 that the Ahaura dredge washed up on Saturday, -but "the return was hot -big. The dredge was employed lor the greater portion of tike week in clearing away a 'bank of siltj ■brought down -by the recent freshes. The Orwell Creek dredge finds the ground more difficult than it was expected. It will he the end of $»e year before any return* 1 will be obtained. The dredge ie working gradually to the lower level, «nd is cutting a channel *&} ilibrowing the material all to one side, in order to get a good (face to work. The wash is 60ft deep, and the dredge dam will be 20ft foelow the surface. It is then expected that the dredge will be able to work the under 40ft, the top 20ft {ailing dowiy as it becomes undermined. There is not much gold in the top, but the bottom 10ft contains •E«avy gold. The Totara Flat dredge ihad & trial run last Friday, and is likely to get permanently started this week. It will, 'however, 'be come weeks 'before the ground is tested. The Maori Gully dredge will be (formally started; early mext week. The machinery, which has 'been' tested, runs well' and. smoothly . It i» thought i/haifc in the. second week it will get a pood return of gold. The Ruby Ofeek dredge is slowly working her way to the ground, whidh itia anticipated ■will turn out well. The dredge is . esperierucing with- its pump, and some alteration is toeing made to its machinery in consequence. The local shareholders in the Greenstone Gold Dredging Company are very much dissatisfied with the proposal of the- Dunedin directors, and have passed a resolution! oalling on dihose who agreed with them to send in their (proxies to Mr Davidson, of Dunedim, with * view of reconstructing, and having a Board 1 of Directors on the West Coast.
