THE CATHEDRAL SPIRE.
— » At the present juncture, when everyone's thoughts are turned to earthquakes and rumours of earthquakes, considerable interest will attach to the illustrations which appear in this week's issue of the " Canterbury Times," showing sida by side^ the appearance of the Cathedral spire after the famous shook of 1888 and that of Saturday last. The more recent picture depict* with wonderful clearness the ■damage done to the spire on the present occasion. In addition', there are % large number ctf illustrations of general interest. A few more snapshots taken at the C.J-C. Metropolitan Race Meeting, together with a fine picture of Royal Artiflwy will appeal specially to those who go a-raeing. A fi»e series of views taken at the Canterbury Agricultural Show give an idea of the crowd 1 which attended tbds popular gathering. Athletes will be interested! i» a good likeness of W. F. Simpson, (bolder of the Australian twomile running record, while poultry fanciers will find' eomethmg to appeal to them in pictures of two fine specimen* of the Silver Wyandotte breed. The teaching staff and pupils of the Timaru South School make a good show, and pot the least interesting feature of a specially good number arc the two pictures taken during the visit of Sir Hector Maodbnald to Wanganui.
