WORKING MEN'S CLUBS.
CHRISTCHUROH. : The annual meeting of the Christohurch Working Men's Club Avas held last evening. ! Mr J. M. Thompson, the president, was in the chair, and; thrae. was a good attendance , of members. The balance-sheet .showed a credit on the profit, and loss account of £114 10s 2d, and a balance of assets over liabilities of £2975 12s 3d.. The President, in moving the adoption of tihe balance-sheet, said he regretted that there had' not been a large increase of membership during the past year. It was to be regretted also that i tho bowling green had proved a i failure. The circulating library, under the able management of Mr Gt. Woodrough, ; librarian, had made rapid strides, and was i now one of the most popular branches of ! the club. The number of subscribers had reached about 130, and the number of books about 3500. The suggestions made, at last annual meeting for the reconstruction of the rooms of tihe club had been carried but with some slight variation, and, although ithe work had caused a drain on the club's funds, it was money well spent. ' The report of Mr J. M. Thompson, librarian of the reference library, stated that the change made in the room occupied by. the reference library h,ad been a great success. The library cow contained 1780 volumes, 32 had been added during the past year, the present value being £659 13s lOd. ,r. The report and balance-sheet were adopts ed after some discussion. - ' Vi;; The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr J. M. Thompson; vice : president, Mr A. H. Blake ; treasurer, Mr W. Garrard ; auditors, Messrs G. S. Clarke and C. J. Marshall ; committee, Messrs G. Biltcliffe, W. H. Young, H. Phillips, H. Rowley, J. Landery and R.
