[Per Prers Association.] WELLINGTON, Nov. 21. Croft, who has been arrested at Sydney, formerly held the position of DoputyOfficial Assignee at Gisborne, and absconded in March last. His defalcations are Baid to be about £600. Mr Alfred G. Johnston, the well-known aquatic enthusiast, is appointed Secretary to the Pott Nicholson Yacht Club. The Nativo Minister iB in the Bay of Plenty district, inquiring into Native affairs. At tho Baptist Conference, the following officers were elected for the ensuing term -.—President, llr T. Kirk, Wellington ; Vice-President, Mr S. H. Matthews, Auckland ; Treasurer, Sir J. P. Garlick. Auckland ; Secretary, the Eov W. R. Woolley, Thames. Mr E. W. Lewis, TTnder-Secretary of the Native Department, is seriously ill in Sydney. At a meeting of the Examiners under the Mining let, first-class certificates were granted to Mr J. Coombe, Eeefton, and Mr J. Green, Brunnerton ; and a second-class certificate to Mr Thomas Baney, Kaitangata. The new regulations under the Coal Mines Act were revised, and after being submitted to the law officers of the Crown they will be gazetted.
