Mining News.

[from oub own coebespondbnt.] BEEFTON, Feb. ,26. BIG BIVEB. : The returns came in yesterday evening, ■ 'viz., 106ozs of amalgam from 70 tons of etone. The Manager reports: — "I did not scrape the plates very clean on account of this being the first scraping. I could easily have taken another twenty ounces. The reef continues about the same in the stopes. In the drive in the tunnel the i etone is dipping under foot. I believe it '1 will rise above the level again." j . KKEP-IT-DABK. ! The Directors met last night, and declared als 6d dividend. It is supposed that the Manager has again found the old South block, which has caused an advance in the shares. The following is the Mine Manager's report for the month : — ."The sinking of No. 2 main shaft is ' finished, and I expect to have it in working order by the end of this week. The necessary pulleyo and rope having been ordered for the winding, I broke through from the intermediate main level. The etone is striking North. . We shall yet have to drive 10ft or 12ft to get the strike of the reef. I have timbered up to the face. Have fair driving North. In the North end the reef continues about the same size. I think I have missed the I South main block in the low level. In the level, about 100ft up, in stoping I came across a face of, stone, cut it, and found it making larger the further it goes I South. It is 10ft wide at present, and I expect it will go to 16ft. If it goes down to No. 3 level it will give several months' I more crushing. Gold can be freely seen in , the stone. Taking the mine on the whole, it looks very well." INKEBMAN. The new contractors will not start taking out stone until Thursday or Friday, and as the Company have discharged all their own ■ men, this will cause a slight delay in starting to crush. GALLANT. The reef at the bottom of the winze is now over 3ft wide. SIB FBANCIS DRAKE. The plates this week, so far, are considered to be looking a little better. [Peb Pbess Association.]
