LONDON, August 31. Ogle, the Australian defaulter, has been committed for trial. Sept. 1. The steamer Lake Pigeon has been wrecked at Arklow, and five boats, containing a number of the orew and passengers, are missing. The frozen meat per Lusitania averaged sfd per lb. Sept. 2. The boats missing from tho wrecked steamer Lake Pigeon have turned up safe. The shipment of frozen meat per Außtral has arrived in moderate condition, and realised an average of 6d per lb. Sir Hardinge S. Gifford, Q.C., is likely to have early promotion to the Bench. He was appointed SolicitorGeneral in Mr Disraeli's Administration in 1875, and shortly af torwards received the honour of kaighthood. In 1877 he was elected M.P. for Lauuceßton. The conference of miners at Manchester has approved of a general strike in Ootober. Two thousand Orangemen have offered themselves as special constablei to preserve the peace in Ireland.
