THEATRE ROYAL.
* The second performance of "Tho Pirates of Penzance " attracted a still larger audionco last night than witnessed it on its first presentation ; tho opera wus even more successful than before, whilst tho applause was sa hearty and as frequont, tho same morifeaux being recognised for thoir merit. Tlie molodies improve upon a second hearing, and not a fow of them will undoubtedly become familiar. Several of fche principals, notably Mdilo lluriello and Signor Morloy, wero in better voice, and in conscquonco tho numbers allotted to theso artistes woro given much better. Tho comic business throughout was given with that evident relish on the part of the performers which arouses tho sympathies of tho audionco. Tho opora is to bo repeated to-night, and apparently liub a long run boforo it. [f tho | houses during tho season aro to be ns full as i those of the first two nights, Mr Cary wili • have no reason to regret his venture, so far i at least as Christchurch io concerned. Wo . understand that rcsidonts in tho country , havo telegraphed to tho management to 5 securo seats— a very wiso precaution. To--3 night a lato train runs to Port, and no doubt ) [Lyttolton will contributo a largo contingent . to tho audience this evening.
