Toes will, and A. Duncan. ; . After some conversation on the delay that has taken place in issuing a Crown grant 'for tho reserve along the south bank of the rirer reserved as an endowment for the South Waimakariri district, it was resolved, on tho motion of tho Mayor of Christchurcb, seconded by Mr Duncan — "That the attention of the Hon J. T. Fisher, and of the other members representing tho rateable district in " the General Assembly, be called to tho delay in issuing Crown grants of the land reserved and promised as an endowment to the South Wnimakariri district." Tho Chairman of tho Avon Eoad Board waited on the Board to ask that land might bo purchased to make a road iv place of that washed away at Chanoy's Corner. A deputation of knd-owner3 in that portion of the district alao interviewed the Board, and re-

quested _ that protective worlß might be erected in that vicinity to prevent the rapid encroachments made by the riyer. After the deputations had retired, Mr Tosswill moved, " That the Chairman be requested to obtain a legal opinion as to the power of the Board to purchase land to be used as a publio road to take the place of a road washed away by the action of the rirer." Mr Ick seconded the resolution, which was agreed to. It was also resolved on the motion of Mr Duncan, seconded by Mr Tosswill— "That the overseer be requested to inspect to protective works erected by the Eyreton Boad Board on Pasbby's farm, Kaiapoi Island, with the view of ascertaining whether works of a similar character could be erected with advantage at Ohaney's corner." The Chairman read a copy of a petition which had been forwarded to the Colonial Secretary by Mr E. Belcher, of Kaiapoi Island, and referred by him to the Board. The petitioner entered into a long statement of damage done by floods to his farm through the Act of the Board in diverting a branch of tho Waimakariri into the new channel. In the remarks made by members it was shown that this diversion had <been carried out by the late Provincial Council, and that the Board had nothing whatever to do with it. Eventually the following resolution was agreed upon: — " That the Chairman bo requested to draw up a statement to be accompanied by a map explaining the past and present course of the streams of the River Waimakariri in the neighbourhood of Kaupoi Island, and that the same be forwarded to the Colonial Secretary." After passing some accounts, the Board adjourned.
