[special.] t , r „ Feb. 28. in Mr Cameron's £1000 sweep, Mata was drawn by Messrs Nixon, shepherd, and pcles, bootmaker, of Naseby; Sinking Fund, • Tjee and Co., of Dunedin ; Templeton, by .>w t TJoss, contractor, of Dunedin ; Nemo, by Mr A. Webb, of Mosgiel. In Drake and Collinß' sweep, tho first prize fell to M'Donald and Co,, Waimate ; the second to Mr -Tames Rhodes, Port Chalmers ; and the third to Mr Bray, Dunedin, To-night's Age says :— " Tho scratching of Titania for the Cup yesterday created intense disgust. Titania was a leading favourite, and her withdrawal has tended to upset all confidence in racing events. We have heard of a young man, who drew Titania in a sweep, in which the first horse stood to win £1000, and who was offered £100 for Titania a few hours before Titania was scratched. He refused the offer, aud lost his m :iey." Money i • coming in freely for the Kaitangata Relief Fund.
