OAMARU.
[special] Fkb. 2S. A meeting of those ■willing to aid in getting subscriptions for the Kaitangata Relief Fund, was held in the lecture room of the Mechanics' Institute to-night, the Ma3-or in the chair. There was only a moderate attendance. Letters were rend from theßovMrDewsbury regretting his inability to be present and promising assistance, and from Mr A. Herdman, Union Bank, forwarding cheque for £2 2s, and enclosing one for £5 5s from the Hon J. Miller. A strong Committee was appointed, including all tho ministers of religion and many of the principal business men of the town. The Mayor was appointed Chairman and Treasurer, and Mr W. J. Smith consented to act as Hon. Sec. It was decided to send subscription lists to country ministers and schoolmasters, and divide the town into districts. It is expected that a large sum of money will be raised.
