The Chrislchurch "Press" of November 10, 1878, says : — "The great impetus which has lately beon given to the manufacture of stoves and ranges was amply proved by tho very large number of exhibits in this class. No less than eighteen ranges were entered for the prizo, of all kinds, shapes, and make. Tho judges awarded the first prize to Messrs Scott Brothers, and second to Mr Wattcrs ; but there can be little doubt that their verdict should have been reversed, as Mr Watters' range, for the price, was by far the most complete and best on the ground. Tho first prize one was priced at £20, without a boiler, but with double oven, and £30 with a boiler. Mr Watters', on tho contrary, with boiler and good roomy oven, was priced at £11 10s.
