MAGISTERIAL.
CHRIBTCHUECH. (Before C. 0. Bowen, Esq., E.M.) Dbunk and Disoedehit. — Fred. Price, arrested by Constable Wallace, was fined 40s, and in default of payment, ordered to be
imprisoned for 48 liottrs.— Peter McDonald, arrested by Constable Gaffney, whom he was also charged with having violently resisted, was dismissed with a caution, in consideration of having been locked tip since Monday night. John Brown, a constable in the Christchurch Police, was charged with having been drunk and disorderly whilst on duty. Sergt. Willis said he saw prisoner whilst on his beat in Cathedral Square staggering about, and finding he was under the influence of liquor, took him to the lock-up. . His "Worship said that j although the offence would not, perhaps, have j been regarded as drunk and disorderly in a civilian, still it was a serious matter in connection with a constable. Accused had already been twice convicted in that Court of dininken- : ness, anol;- it would also appear that he. had been seven times before the Commissioner of Police for similar conduct. It was therefore evident that/ lie -was - not fit to »mam » member of the police force any longer. For the present offence he would be fined 20s. ' ' Vagrancy.— John. Counop was. brought up under the Vagrant Act.' From the "evidence it appeared that he had been . guilty, of indecent conduct to a young girl in High street yesterday ; that a month ago he had been guilty of suspicious conduct with some boys ; and that he had already been imprisoned for an indecent assault upon a child, and for vagranoy. His Worship sentenced prisoner to eighteen months' imprisonment, with hard labour. \ .'
