TAURANGA.

The ' bachelor's ball ' which should have been called the ' return ball,' was held here last week, and proved a bit of a failure. The committee was composed of two good men and three indifferent ones, and the indifferent ones ran the show. Several things happened which, to say the least of it, were not 0.X., and it will be a long time before another dance is run here under such management.. .. Mr C. was on his way to a social in the country, accompanied by his wife, and as usual drove like mad. The consequence is his wife has her arm broken and he hia leg hurt.. ..The Tauranga town clerk ought to be presented with a leather medal for attention to business. He allowed the time for the election to pass without one being held, and now calls fcr candidates to fill extraordinary vacancies, ' no person having been returned at the annual election on the second Thursday in September, 1892.' Truly the way things are allowed to pass in Tauranera surpassetti that in any other place....A.F. has proposed, and Smith has received a special order for an engagement ring, to be ready by this time next iear....J..T.8. says that it is time some young men were on the borough council, and so he has decided to allow himselt to be nominated.... lt is not seemly for a banker to be seen in a public bar with his arm around the waist of the presiding genius at the beer pump.
