'A Dolii'B House.'— New Lynn scbool-honse, as contrasted with the teacher's residence. Onb of the lawyers employed in the Qaoi case is well qualified to speak on • mixed marriages.' Bbeb and Bible Again. —William John Bible has got a month in prison for begging in a beer-shop. Police Court revelations regarding the way in which a Celestial prepares victuals for New Zealand barbarians are too disgusting for publication. The paragraph in last week'B issue, referring to the badly-cooked luncheon given to the French Admiral and officers, <3id not refer to the luncheon provided by Mr Bobson on board the Britannia. Sevebal members of the police force are about to plunge into the sea of matrimony. Constable Charlie Stanyer is the first down on the list, and he will be closely followed by Constable Stephenson. Lots of people think they have got their knife pretty well in New Zealand already, that the colony has been bled white, and that the whole thing is a ' frost.' A cobbespondent complains that, when getting a Savings Bank mortgage released, he was charged a guinea for the releasing document, although it was stipulated that 10s should be the fee. The charge is a flagrant imposition, as a few lines written on the baok of the mortgage would be sufficient release. The proper course is for mortgagors to insist upon the right to employ their own lawyers. The Herald angels sing that a double wedding will soon eventuate in the family circle of the two principal proprietors of the morning journal, The nuptials of Mr Harry Wilson (Willies son) with Miss Best (daughter of the Wesleyan parson) are fixed to take place on an early date ; and about the same time Miss Wilson (daughter of Mr Joseph Wilson) will be married to Mr Whitney, son of Captain Whitney, of amrrunition fame. The Press, the Church and the Army will thus be brought into union.
