DRILL HALL FOR THAMES.
RiECORD OF riIOGRESS MADE
It is pleasing, to state tliaitpreseitt indications are that before long Thames will be possessed of an up-to-datedrill -hall and accessories. We are sure that the. torritm-iul, and senior cadete of the district will welcome the announojmont for the difficulties and disadvantages under which parades are conducted and clothing and ycountremenbs ••stored are appaj-ent. ' Some hitch occurred in connection .; with the proposed exchange of ; sites. | between the High 'School Board of Goveaiiors and. the Defence Department, and hits delayed matters considerably. The High Schooll feard , wished to secure the sections in j IMllie street purchased by the De-j fence Department on which to erect the drill hall; and in exchange offered sefetioria in Maek'ay ' street in. close proximity to the Masonic Hall. The Defence" Depaiiinnent looked into the valuations of. the respwtiivw allotineuita, discovered that their sections were considered to ba more valuable than the allotments in Mack&y street, which ib was proposed to transfer, -and insisted that additional area should be purchased so as to equalise the ' Consideirabie eofprespondeuce ensued and eventually the delay becaiine so- disappointing to thosie intea-^isitfed in the project that the giood offices of the member for the district (Mr T. W. Rhodeis^ were secured and we believe! it is in a groat . measi'.re due to his aetavity that! the present s'atiisfsiotoa'y arangiement has been arrived at.
Titi is to'-lj© hoped thati there will be no further delay and that soion Thames will lie possessed of what it haa urgently required for years- —an up to daite and commodious drill ball.
