Mr McDonald was thle lending solicitor a$ the Thames, for many years:, and was one of . tha kindest hearted' and most popular of residents. He was mmrei the personal friend than the legal adviser of his client*, for many were the cases that he settled oujt of counto, and many disputes he by his tack andi friendly advice (prevented■reacli'ing ani acute stage. He was nmyw of the Thames, and by his political friends was induced to accept » Resident Magistracy and subsequently was appointed Chief Judge of the Native Lands Court. He worked so> hard in this office'tfotai he permananitily injured his health and had to retire h^oxa all work. This took place 14 years ago. He has beeni a, great sufferer, being mentally andi physically a complete wreak. Mr McDo-nald was mi his young days am athlete, and once held thle amateur championship of England for foot racing. His friend* will mourn a good inani gone to his r.est, and? rejoticel that his" sufferings are a,t am end. Mr J. A. Miller was fop years a partner of Mr McDonald.
